Domaine Jean Chartron Bourgogne Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes 2018 (6232)

France - Burgundy - Cote de Beaune - Generic

As says “While there is great interest in the Grand Crus, much can be learned from the lesser wines – including the ability to produce pure and detailed wines from the lower-end appellations.”

This particularly applies to domaines like Jean Chartron where there is a wealth of Grand Crus but also numerous Villages wines and a super old vines Bourgogne Blanc. All wines are made with great care and attention to detail and at Bourgogne level you can really see just how good Domaine Jean Chartron is.

It is probably not surprising when the source for your Bourgogne is Puligny-Montrachet and nearby from vineyards planted in 1944, 1945, 1946, 1960, 1990 and 1991. This is a true Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes.

Darren Harris

Mineral and deep with stonefruit and citrus and spicy back notes. There’s palate weight and intensity you don’t expect at this level. No doubt the old vines contribute significantly. The wine finishes with the acidity and drive you’d expect from a wine from Puligny. Serious Bourgogne from an excellent maker.

Wine Advocate - William Kelley

The 2018 Bourgogne Chardonnay Vieilles Vignes offers up a generous bouquet of buttered orchard fruit and wheat toast, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and generous palate. Open and charming but nicely balanced, this will drink well young. Drink 2020-2024.

John Gilman "View from the Cellar"

The 2018 Bourgogne blanc from Jean-Michel Chartron had bounced back nicely from its bottling at the end of August and was showing quite nicely in November. All of the vines for this wine are in Puligny-Montrachet. The bouquet offers up a lovely blend of pear, lemon, chalky soiltones, a touch of beeswax and a very discreet base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, long and bouncy, with good grip and length on the still nicely reserved finish. A good example. 2020-2030+.
