Deeper colour than the Clos des Ormes but still with the same enticing exotic character. Cherries, roses, minerals and spice - very perfumed. The palate is fine, with focused fresh fruit, a lick of saline tang and great length driven by stylish tannins. There is a serious level of finesse that makes the wine feel lighter than it is as there is no lack of volume here. I can see this being stunning with a little time in bottle.

Barrel sample. 30% whole bunch. 40% new oak. More protected from cold winds than Clos St-Denis.Lightish cherry red. An aroma that is restrained but draws you in. Dark-red fruit, peppery, mineral and a little chalky. On the palate, really sinewy and almost but not quite lean, direct and precise and very fresh. The opposite of gourmand but satisfying in a health-promoting way. No fat. Much more in finesse than charm. Very long.  Drink 2025-2035.

Yields were reduced by 30% because of the hail, which may have contributed to the greater concentration here. Spread over six parcels, the Lignier holdings add up to 1ha overall. This is less reductive than the Clos St-Denis, with alluring Chambolle-like scents of rose and succulent red berry fruit, and a fine texture and weight with spicy, perfumed oak. Drinking Window 2024 - 2030.
