A little under one third of a hectare  produces 4 barrels (1200 bottles). As well as the one new cask there  is as much as 30% of whole bunch fermentation here; a small increase on a change  that  brought  Benoit  great  success  in  the  previous  vintage. Very  serious,  with brooding red fruits and, though the  iron rich soils have more  in common with the softer Morey reds, there is classic, Gevrey style lift and energy. 2025 to 2035.

Barrel sample. No hail. Vines from his great grandmother. 30% whole bunch. 40% new oak. Planted 1930 - they need to replace some vines - average age is 70 years. Old vines are less affected by trunk diseases such as esca, ie they are affected but not generally killed by it because their lower vigour can cope with less sap flow. On top of a small quarry. Limestone and a more feminine style of Bonnes Mares. 0.29 ha (0.72 acres). Very small yield.
Light cherry red. Much sweeter and more red fruited than the Clos de la Roche with a touch of oak spice. Smells more gourmand, richer, fuller in the mouth and rounded with a very nice freshness at the core. Lovely balance between the generous fruit and the precise vibrant acidity. Very long. Finely textured, compact tannins clothed in bright fruit. Drink 2025-2035.

Benoît Stehly's 0.24ha block is on the Chambolle side of the grand cru - as nearly everyone's is - but he says the iron-rich red soils have more in common with Morey-St-Denis. Fermented with 30% whole bunches, this is meaty and a little reductive right now, but the underlying fruit is supple, plush and textured, with glossy tannins and stylish 40% new wood.Drinking Window 2025 - 2030.
