Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report:

Jean-Michel is not yet sure what he will do with this wine as it’s the 100th vintage since the purchase – two different samples to taste:

1. A discreet nose, but with a vibration of fresh orange flesh aroma. A hint of gas, a certain muscle and depth of flavour, faintly reductive but not obviously so, concentrated, mineral, considered flavour. Beautiful texture. With a brighter and more mineral burst on the finish – great length…

2. A little more open, faintly agrume, slight extra complexity and openness. Extra open, super clarity, extra energy, agrume style again. Here is the more energetic of the two also the more saline and weighted of finishing flavour – über length…

Both were harvested the same day, the second sample from the old vines, the first from the ‘young vines’ – 30-40 years-old.

John Gilman "View from the Cellar"

2017 is the hundredth vintage of Clos de la Pucelle for the Chartron family and Jean-Michel has produced a special cuvée to commemorate this historical vintage. The wine is absolutely stellar on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet offering up a supremely refined blend of white peach, apple, chalky soil tones, a nice touch of citrus zest, vanillin oak and a beautiful topnote of lemon blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, complex and supremely elegant in profile, with a fine core, excellent transparency, bright, zesty acids and great cut and grip on the very long and classy finish. A great bottle in the making. 2025-2065+.

Wine Advocate - Neal Martin

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Pucelle 1er Cru, a monopole of the Domaine, has a tightly wound bouquet with scents of green apple, linden and touches of caramelized pear. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and linear, very refined and composed with just a hint of spice towards the sustained finish. I love the sapid nature of this wine. Excellent. 2020-2040.

The second centenaire cuvée is the Clos de la Pucelle a Clos located in the northern end of Pucelle – also around 1 ha, with the oldest part planted in 1953/54. This is also a very elegant cuvée – tremendous purity and with a lovely floral element – Classic Pucelles .. long, intense and filigree – what a lovely wine – matching the Caillerets.
