Domaine Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots Rouge 2016 (5232)

France - Burgundy - Cote de Beaune - Beaune
Pinot Noir

Vinous, Stephen Tanzer: (from barrel) (the yield here was just 15 hectoliters per hectare): Bright, dark red with ruby tones. Very dark aromas of cassis, blackberry, blueberry, violet and licorice pastille. A step up in sucrosité and texture from the foregoing samples, offering an enticing sappiness to its dark berry and licorice flavors. This concentrated, very juicy wine spreads out on the back end, finishing with rather suave palate-dusting tannins. Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry noted that this wine used to be harder but since he started farming organically in 2009 the tannins have become rounder. 90-92

The Fine Wine Review

The Aigrots is quite mineral with blackberry fruit, smoothness of texture, and round tannins. This wine drinks well now and also has good aging potential.

(from a 1 ha parcel of 15+ year old vines). An attractively fresh and bright nose features notes of pretty red berries, plum and distinct earth scents that are also trimmed in noticeable wood. The rich, delicious and solidly intense mineral-driven flavors possess fine depth and length on the moderately firm finish where the wood influence telegraphed by the nose reappears.

Red-puple in colour. More lift and greater structure than the Toussaints before it. Once again what looks like a touch of stems. Fresh and bright, the fruit a little lighter on its feet but very deeply flavoured and multi-layered. Concentrated, balanced and full of style. The tannins are once gain beauifully coated. I like this a lot.
