Domaine Bruno Desaunay-Bissey Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015 (5138)

Domaine Bruno Desaunay-Bissey Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015 (5138)

France - Burgundy - Cote de Nuits - Flagey-Echezeaux
Pinot Noir

Desaunay-Bissey own just 0.15 hectares spread between the climats Les Champs Traversins and Les Quartiers de Nuits. The later is an unusual appellation as when you look at a map it is appears that it should be part of the Clos Vougeot climat Petit Maupertui except that it has been otherwise removed and left outside the Clos' wall. Politics?

The domaine's vines are over 100 years of age and this is their only Grand Cru and is the jewel in their crown.

Wine Advocate

The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru is superb, wafting from the glass with a youthful bouquet of red cherry, raspberry, espresso, lapsang tea, game bird, licorice and wood smoke. On the palate, the wine is broad, full-bodied and multidimensional, with juicy acids, velvety tannins and a long, sappy finish. This is a beautifully balanced Echézeaux, understated but full of substance, from vines planted in 1902, 1940 and 1945.
