(from several parcels that include Ez Echards, Les Aussy and Les Petits Gamets). A type of reduction known as bourgeon de cassis by the Burgundians presently dominates the fruit but I doubt that it will last. The mouth feel of the middle weight and more mineral-inflected flavors is finer as is the level of delineation, all wrapped in a lacy and refined finish. This is very Volnay in style and worth your interest. (89-91)/2022+

(Bitouzet pulled this sample the day before my visit, just before the wine received a dose of SO2): Palish medium red. Slightly herbal aromas of cherry and licorice. Supple on entry, then a bit lean in the middle palate, showing a medicinal quality and a saline element but in need of a bit more flesh. A bit dusty on the finish. An unexciting showing, but I suspect this wine gained in precision with the sulfuring.

Lightish crimson. Smells more Gamay than Pinot. Dark-red fruit and a touch of pepper and rocky minerality. Savoury and dry on the palate, very fine tannins but a bit sour on the finish. (JH)
