The Fine Wine Review

The yield for this wine is 8.3 hl/ha. So far, there’s been no SO2 added to this wine. The nose and mouth both show red fruits. In the mouth, the wine is long and salty with good density and balance.

At the domaine: From vines located in Volnay. Just 6 barrels from 1.5 hectares. Crazy low copping of around 8 hl/ha. A ripe, fresh nose with berries and flowers. Serious intensity. Plenty of mid-palate mouth-feel with freshness and a liveliness. Finishes long and deep. A mini Volnay, just as it has been for the previous two vintages we have imported. Very good indeed. Sadly only 20 cases for Australia.

27 March 2019: I know Bouley’s Bourgogne comes from Volnay and that in 2016 the cropping was 1/8 of normal. And that’s why this wine explodes from the glass. For me the 2016 Volnays are the best I have ever tasted and this Bourgogne is truly a knockout. The wine is incredibly intense with juicy, fresh fruit laden with red berries and flowers. There is a citric-mineral tang on the palate finishing with serious length and a gorgeous texture. Easily Villages Volnay level in any other vintage. You’ve got to try this and forget what is on the label. What is in the bottle is crazy good for the price.
