Wine Advocate - Neal Martin

The 2016 Corton Clos des Maréchaudes Grand Cru, Domaine du Pavillon includes 40% whole-bunch fruit and is matured in 40% new oak. It has a tightly wound bouquet at first, one that gradually unfurls to reveal a mixture of red and black fruit, a subtle marine influence (seaweed and oyster shells) emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, a pinch of white pepper on the entry, robust tannin but there is good substance here. Give this two or three years in bottle.

Made in exactly the same way as the Aloxe-Corton version, but this comes out with a deeper purple colour and a greater succulence of fruit, which covers the tannins more, allowing the acidity to provide the structure.

Tim Atkin MW

The soils are very poor and bony in this upper part of the Les Maréchaudes climat, producinga wine that is muscular, concentrated and savoury, with classically meaty, savoury Corton flavours, rich black cherry and blueberry fruit and a long, refreshing finish. 2024-32.
