John Gilman "View from the Cellar"

We tasted the 2014 Fixin “la Croix Blanche” out of a new barrel, as the older casks were a bit reductive, but this wine will only be raised in about twenty percent new wood this year. The wine is excellent in 2014, wafting from the glass in a fine blend of cassis, sweet dark berries, lovely minerality, bitter chocolate and roasted venison. On the palate the wine is deep, fullbodied, complex and rock solid at the core, with fine focus and grip, suave tannins and a long, nascently complex finish. Fixin can sometimes be a touch on the rustic side, but the inherent elegance of the vintage has really polished this into a little gem in the cellar and this will be a fine value. 2019-2045.
