Domaine Gaston and Pierre Ravaut Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2015 (4345)

Domaine Gaston and Pierre Ravaut Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2015 (4345)

France - Burgundy - Cote de Beaune - Aloxe-Corton
Pinot Noir

One of the great Grand Cru sites of Corton and usually considered number two after Clos du Roi. The style of wine from Bressandes is a little redder than Clos du Roi with gamy and spice notes over firm but supple tannins.

15% new oak, fully destemmed. As good as the Ladoix 1er Crus are the Grand Cru Cortons from Ravaut offer something extra. I am a big fan of Bressandes with black-red, earth and complex mouthfilling flavours. Ravaut's wine is classic Bressandes. The fruit runs the gamut from black to red with plum and currant. In the background there are notes of liquorice and liquored cherries. Underpinning the fruit is earth and mineral that keep the wine fresh whilst adding interest and layers of complexity. It is a stylish wine with long tannins amply covered by beautifully ripe fruit. Bravo!

Cask sample. Mid cherry. Deep, rich in dark-red fruit. Smells generous and velvety. And the palate is the same: dense with fruit, smooth - just chewy - tannins. Tight and compact and all still to come. (JH)
