Domaine des Chezeaux (Ponsot) Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes 2015 (3984)

France - Burgundy - Cote de Nuits - Chambolle-Musigny
Pinot Noir

Domaine des Chézeaux owns nearly 60% of Griotte-Chambertin with 1.57 ha of it as well as vines in Clos St. Denis, Chambertin, Chambolle "Charmes", Gevrey "Lavaut St-Jacques" and "Cazetiers" plus some Gevrey villages. While Domaine des Chézeaux sells wine under its own label, it does not work the vines or make the wines. The Griottes-Chambertin, Clos St. Denis, Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny "Charmes" are all produced by Domaine Ponsot under a metayage arrangement. Ponsot leases the vines and one third of the finished wine is given to Chezeaux as payment.

The wines is identical to that bottled under the Ponsot label. In fact the bottles bear the name Ponsot molded on the base, the same modern synthetic cork and the label states “Eleve, vinifie et mis en bouteille par le Domaine Ponsot”.

A ripe and fresh nose combines elegant notes of maraschino cherry, plum and spice with spice and a whisper of floral character. There is a really lovely mouthfeel to the caressing, round and highly refined flavors that exude an enticing inner mouth perfume while delivering excellent length on the focused, delineated and silky finish where the sense of refinement is enhanced by the notably fine-grained tannins. An excellent example of the vineyard. (Drink starting 2023).

Pure raspberry nose with exquisite aromas that one hopes to find, not always with success, in Chambolle. Heady and seductive. Rich, sleek fruits dance on the intense palate with nervous energy, backed by fine acidity that gives persistence and drive. Long, classy finish. Drinking Window 2018 - 2030
