Mosel Fine Wines

This stunning wine delivers a show-stopping nose of pear, apple, coconut, white flowers and mint. A touch of pineapple adds a smoothing side on the palate, with still rather firm acidity providing the right focus and precision. This is a superb Spätlese in the making which ranks among the classics in this style by the Estate. What a brilliant success! 2024-2044

Wine Advocate

The 2014 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese #5 is very clear, deep and fresh in its mineral expression that intertwines the flinty Scharzhofberger terroir flavors with white stone fruit aromas. This is piquant and extremely well focused Riesling from one of the greatest Riesling terroirs on planet wine. The solidity and mineral complexity of the Spätlese #5 is remarkable. A great wine!

Antonio Galloni Vinous

This blend of numerous casks perpetuates the vintage Scharzhof themes of bright acids and high-toned aromatics. Fresh lime and white peach are joined by pear distillate in the nose; turn almost chiffon-like and delicate midpalate; then launch into a blazingly penetrating, sharp-edged finish. And at every turn there is a saturating suffusion of stone. This bottling is breathtaking in sheer intensity, but at least for now less winsome or intriguingly complex than the corresponding Braune Kupp Spätlese.
