Mosel Fine Wines

This gorgeous dessert wine delivers a superb nose in which fresher scents of pear, mint and even grapefruit mingled with superbly precise and rich apricot, citrus cream, pineapple and honey. The wine is superbly comforting on the palate, with some ripe yet firm acidity cutting through a gorgeous sense of herb-infused oiliness. The finish plays again this ravishing fresh-ripeness repertoire as one is left with honeyed mirabelle in a lingering after taste. This is a superb Auslese which will prove hard to resist at maturity. 2024-2049

The 2014 Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese #8 is intense and clear on the nose and displays fine botrytis flavors along with aromatic herbal aromas of curry plant. Full of finesse and piquancy on the palate, with beautifully clear mirabelle plum and nectarine flavors, this is a highly elegant and finesse-full beauty with a lush mid-palate and a very fine and elegant, nicely salty and mouth-watering finish. There is so much intensity here, but it's also drinkable and complexity! There was another Auslese GK #9 that was auctioned in Trier for 770 Euros.

Antonio Galloni Vinous

The absence of A.P. number from the above description confirms that there is indeed but one 2014 vintage Müller Scharzhofberger Auslese (although there is also an “Auslese Goldkapsel”). Rainier cherry and mirabelle preserves are wreathed in honeysuckle and heliotrope in a performance whose creamy, enveloping richness and honeyed aura depart dramatically from the blazing brightness exhibited by the wines that led up to it. But then, this was picked out at the end of harvest, and even though that was less than two weeks after it began, a lot had happened in between by way of rain and rot, in this case very noble rot. The clinging finish here is downright soothing in comparison with the energy and penetrating, sharp intensity exhibited by the corresponding Spätlesen. That having been noted, juicy fresh grapefruit, lime and white peach all enliven the confitured and honeyed elements of this superb and seductive Auslese.
