Wine Enthusiast - Roger Voss

Smoky aromas add to the red fruits and manifest themselves on the palate as the spicy, toasty wood aging. The fruits are still developing, a series of rich berries and currants that will be ripe and generous. For the moment, the dry tannins dominate, so give this wine until 2018.

Bright red. Serious, backward nose hints at menthol and smoky minerality. Densely packed and well-delineated, showing very good energy and definition to the dark cherry and menthol flavors. In a tight, distinctly serious style, with a serious tannic spine saturating the palate on the juicy back end. This will require patience.

An openly sauvage dark berry fruit nose features aromas of earth, leather, forest floor and smoked game. This is notably full-bodied with a robust mouth feel to the middle weight plus flavors that display fine mid-palate concentration as well as focused power on the ever-so-mildly rustic and chewy finish that also displays a hint of dryness. The supporting tannins appear to be phenolically mature so I am cautiously optimistic that the dryness will dissipate in time. 90/2022+
